    WHAT IS CAE?
The Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation is designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance, and identify association professionals who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of association management. Founded in 1960, the CAE program stands as a mark of excellence and has evolved to reflect what it takes to manage an association in today's challenging climate.

The deadline to apply to take the December 2013 CAE Exam is Friday, September 27, 2013.  If you are interested in participating in a CAE Study Group for the December exam please contact KSAE at cclassi@ksaenet.org or 785-234-0155.

The ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition

More than 5,400 association professionals and industry partners attended the 2013 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition, August 3-6, in Atlanta.  The three-day conference included more than 120 education sessions, exhibits, and networking opportunities that some KSAE members were lucky enough to take part in.

"I loved their concept of a 'Flash Learning Room.'  If attendees don’t see content they are looking for, they have a chance to claim a specified meeting room onsite and conduct a session of their choosing.  It’s their responsibility to promote the session through the various social media channels. "  Sarah Meyer, Conference & Meeting Planner/Education Coordinator, Kansas Association of Counties, said.

Christy Classi, CAE, Executive Director of KSAE, enjoyed networking and learning from staff members of SAEs from around the country as well as an education session on Tech Tools by Beth Ziesenis.

The 2014 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition will be in Nashville on August 9-12.

What I Learned At the ASAE Annual Meeting
    Wendy Harms, KSAE President

I truly enjoyed the educational sessions.  However, one that will stick with me was from the Game Changer Session – Turning Cinnabon Into a $1 Billion Brand – Kat Cole

Key notes I noted from this session:

The Fruits are in the Roots
o   Keep true to yourself as well as your business.
o    You have to keep your roots nourished.

    Reinvest in the Core
o    Think: What Makes you Great in the first place?
§   Build your success on that (cinnamon).
o    You can grow in the investment; while staying true to the core.

    Leverage Your Strengths
    o    What opportunities are available?
    o    Look at your Resources.
o    Limited Advertising budget so they partner with Burger King & Taco Bell.
o    Assisted with Branding, Innovation & Keeps it Evolving.
§   Cereals, Pillsbury, Keurig Coffee and more.

    Collaborate
o    Collaborating with others helps keep you relevant.
o    Constant pursuit of education helps keep you relevant.
o    Connect to your community; get involved.

    Communicate
o    It doesn’t matter how many wonderful things you have, offer, or create if you can’t communicate it well, it will not sell!

    Be Real

o   What is one thing you do today that will make things better after you leave?
o   Be there and be real with your community, members and self too. EARNS TRUST
    o    Creditability – Confidence - Courage
